The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (Cormoran Strike #1)

The Cuckoo's Calling (A Cormoran Strike Novel)Summary: An ex-military police investigator turned PI is asked to investigate the suicide of a famous model.

The Cuckoo’s Calling has been on my radar since it was revealed that JK Rowling wrote it under a pseudonym. I picked it up at the library this last week on audiobook as part of my attempts at finding light things to listen to while I do data processing for work.

I do not feel Harry Potter’s author in this book, and that is not bad because it is quite engaging on its own. A down on his luck private investigator, Cormoran Strike, is hired by a grieving brother to look into the apparent suicide of a famous model. Strike works through the case with a number of suspects. For me that final reveal was still a surprise.

The characters are well drawn, the mystery makes sense at the end and you can see how Strike works it out without giving away too much to the reader before it is time. I put a hold at the library for the second book in the series.
