Takeaway: Young Adult literature should still be written for young adults.
The first book in this series, Milrose Munce and the Den of Professional Help (my review), I really enjoyed. It was quirky, used unusual but approachable language (similar to Limeny Snicket, but older). And had a bit of humor that while maybe missed on some teens, did not detract from it being a Young Adult book. So I was looking forward to reading the second book.
But Milrose Munce and the Plauge of Toxic Fungus seemed to take all of the things that could have made the first book bad, and expanded on them, while missing a lot of what made it good. The language is much older and while trying to be hip, just felt bogged down. It felt like an adult book trying to be Young Adult instead of a book written for teens that might be ok for adults.
Not a fan of this one. I read half and gave up.
