Offsite: Christian Fiction is Not a Victimless Crime

Back on Murder by J Mark BertrandI ran across a provocatively titled blog post Christian Fiction is Not a Victimless Crime today.

The short version of the post is that most Christian fiction readers are White women over 45 (mostly suburban).  Which is why there is a huge number of Amish, Historical Fiction and Romance titles at the local Christian book store.

There is nothing wrong with Amish, Historical Fiction and Romance books.  But when publishers only market these titles to Christians then it leaves a hole for readers that want other types of books.

J Mark Bertrand, who wrote a very well reviewed series of crime fiction novels (starts with Back on Murder, which is free for kindle and reviewed here at Bookwi.se), is looking for a new publisher because Bethany House does not know to market the books.

So as a reader, I encourage you to actually buy well written books, regardless of where they are published and encourage publisher and authors to write books that move readers outside of the Christian romance ghetto that so many are stuck in.
