Read More Classics

Englewood Review of BooksChristian Smith, Editor of the very fine Englewood Review of Books has an article in the Huffington Post about his desire to focus more on the classics and less on the books of the moment.  He has a pretty broad view of classic (anything that is not a book of the moment) but he is focusing on books that are in the pubic domain.

Smith has asked others to contribute suggestions of what books they would include as classics that are worth reading.  So far Shane Claiborne and Karen Swallow Prior (author of the Bookwi.se reviewed Booked) have submitted their ideas.

Of the books that the two suggested, I have only read a handful.  What ‘classics’ would you suggest that need to be read or read again? What do you think of the plan to Christian Smith of Englewood Review of Books suggests that we need to Read More Classics?
