Several Science Fiction and Fantasy Kindle Deals (not a part of Big Deal Sale)

These are not a part of the big deal sale, but are still good deals.

SolarisSolaris by Stanislaw Lem is one of my favorite science fiction books.  It does say something about the type of science fiction that I like.  This deal is for the new 2011 translation that I have not read yet (but I did pick up this book).  The original 1970s translation was actually a French translation of the original Polish and then translated to English.  It is $0.99 for the weekend.

Do not base your opinion of this book on the George Clooney movie.  Although the 1972 russian movie is fairly close to the book.  I saw the 1972 movie before I read the book for the first time.

Tales from EarthseaTales from Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin $3.99

This is a collection of short stories set in the world of Earthsea. These are supplemental to the Earthsea books (written 1968-71) and not stand alone stories. But if you read the Earthsea trilogy as I did, then these are supposed to be good. The main Earthsea trilogy is not available for Kindle yet. Tehanu (book four written in 1990) is available for $5.99 for Kindle, but not available in paper until later this year. The Other Wind (book 5) was written in 2001 is $7.19 in kindle.  This is what happens when a series is written over a long period of time and different publishers are involved.  I would like to re-read the series and I just recommended it to some friends for their early teenage son.  By the way, Lavinia, a stand alone novel by LeGuin that I have not read is in the sale for $3.99.

The Fellowship of the Ring: Being the First Part of The Lord of the RingsThe Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien – $3.99

Most of Tolkien’s books dropped in price this week. My guess is that it is in anticipation of the Hobbit movie. The rest of the Lord of the Ring books are $7.59. So if you want to read them all it is still a better deal to get the single volume Lord of the Ring Trilogy for $9.99

The Hobbit is available in two editions on Kindle, both $7.59. The Simarillion and most of the rest of the books that were released posthumously are also $7.59
