Agatha Christie’s The Body in the Library was offered free on kindle very briefly a few weeks ago. So briefly that I assume it was a pricing mistake, not a promotional offer.
But I thought it was a good book to be my first full book on my ipad. I have blogged about the ipad before (and will write more later) so I am not going to comment on the reading experience here.
I read a couple of Agatha Christie books in middle/high school. I enjoyed them but other than “Ten Little Indians” (or “And Then There Were None”) I really do not remember any of them.
The Body in the Library is a Miss Marple mystery(one of her more well known characters). This is the first Miss Marple book I have read. And I never have seen any of the PBS/BBC Miss Marple tv shows.
Mysteries of this sort can be enjoyable for me, on an occasional basis. I sometimes get some of the clues, but most of the time I do not. So I do not get a thrill out of figuring it out before the main character (because I don’t figure it out.) That is the main reason I never really got into Sherlock Holmes books, I just am not as smart as he is. I did read a good number of Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid, which were somewhat similar, but I enjoyed them then.
I do find enjoy reading older books (this is not that old, originally published in 1942) because of the historical curiosity of writing style and culture. This book is about the murder of a young dancer. She was hired by a hotel/resort to entertain guests and dance with them. I just cannot imagine that there is a role of professional dance partner at many resorts. Maybe I just am not aware of the right resorts.
It was an enjoyable read.
