I would love to get some ideas for another book discussion.
These are three books that I thought might discuss well but I am wide open to other books.
1) No Argument for God: Going Beyond Reason in Conversations About Faith by John Wilkinson (amazon link) update: my review
I just received a review copy of this so I have not read it yet, but I have heard good things. I am a person that thinks that apologetics have value, but primarily for the Christian and only for the occasional non-Christian that is really drawn to rational things. So I think this will speak to the role of reason in evangelism.
2) Scripture and the Authority of God by NT Wright (my review)
This is based on an earlier book with the subtitle: Getting Beyond the Bible Wars. It is honestly one of the best books I have read about the importance of scripture and how we should read and understand the authority of scripture. But Wright has many points that will likely spark discussion. This is somewhat similar in idea to Scot McKnight’s book Blue Parakeet, but I think it is a better book.
3) The Next Story: Life and Faith after the Digital Explosion by Tim Challies (amazon link) update: my review
I am about half way through this, and there is lots to talk about. Challies, a very well known reformed blogger, web designer and now pastor, is writing about the dangers and promises of technology to our Christian faith. I think he raises lots of good issues, but in a similar way to Shane Hipps book Flickering Pixels, I so far have not been all that excited about how he responds to them. But it probably would make a good book for discussion and right now is free on audiobook from christianaudio.com (through end of May.)
These things always take a while to organize and usually have a 40 to 50 percent dropout rate because even with good intentions life gets in the way of reading. So the earliest the next discussion would probably start is mid June.
